The purpose of this project was to evaluate how gender-targeted marketing works. I chose to compare men and women’s razors, specifically the packaging and physical qualities.
I began by doing intensive research on the history of razors including the why and when razors were marketed specifically towards women. This research included searching many articles about shaving and razor development. To gain knowledge about current razor design I went into stores to analyze the products currently available. I then used all the information gathered to create an infographic.
The idea behind the final graphic was to mock how companies design their packaging. I found common elements across brands and created a ‘how to’ guide to create razor packaging depending on the gender that is being targeted.
