When redesigning the book jacket the focus was to do something different than the typical covers seen on most versions of ‘The Secret Garden.’ The main character, Mary, lived in India as a child and in a later scene after she moved to her Uncle’s estate in England she plays with Indian elephant figurines. The elephant is used to represent Mary playing in the garden she finds in the book. The type and illustrative elements work to evoke a sense of playfulness and magic which are main themes throughout the book.
